Reformation Day 2017 - 500th Year Celebration!

This year (October 31, 2017) marks 500 years since Martin Luther nailed the 95 theses on the door of the Catholic church, sparking the revolution that resulted in the Protestant Reformation.
I am so grateful, wrapped in the knowledge that God's grace covers me every day of my life.
It's through scripture alone, faith alone, grace alone, Christ alone, & to the glory of God alone!
It's through Christ I am redeemed & the glory belongs only to Him!

  1. Sola Scriptura (“Scripture alone”): The Bible alone is our highest authority.
  2. Sola Fide (“faith alone”): We are saved through faith alone in Jesus Christ.
  3. Sola Gratia (“grace alone”): We are saved by the grace of God alone.
  4. Solus Christus (“Christ alone”): Jesus Christ alone is our Lord, Savior, and King.
  5. Soli Deo Gloria (“to the glory of God alone”): We live for the glory of God alone.

We celebrate this momentous event in church history by having a big fall party each year!
Every celebration is filled with fun & lots of memory making.
This year was no exception!
We actually hosted this year for the first time, at our new home out in the country.
(And yes, this blog is so neglected that I don't think I've even mentioned that we sold our home, bought a new one, & a 1000 other things in between.  Lots of catching up to do.)

We worked for a whole year preparing our property to host this event (that's a whole other story about this excited new adventure that we are living out here in the country!) & it was all very worth it.
It seemed to be the perfect day!

The swinging bridge reflecting in the creek ... much fun to be had crossing this later in the day.

The tent has been set up ... just waiting on the crowd.

Can't have a reformation celebration without a bouncy house.
The children would revolt ... & with as many as we have at our church, that could get dangerous ;)

There's always a hearty bounty of soups, stews, casseroles, & the like.
Everyone's bellies are full when the day end.

I covered the tables in brown paper & labeled each dish ~ made it easy to know what was what.

The fire gets started early in the morning & lasts well into the night.

And I'm absolutely sure this is thee nicest outdoor restroom in the history
of portable outdoor restrooms!

This rope swing was a hit!
There was a constant line of adults & kids alike waiting to swing out over the creek!

Now time for a guided trek across the swinging bridge!

Pastor James (Pops) & our sweet grandson, Henry <3 & his beloved puppy.

The weather was perfect ... high 70s.
Perfect time to just sit around, relax, & visit.

Another fun event is the log saw!
All the guys, little & big, like to try their hand at sawing!

Special games were set up for the little guys too & they loved playing together.

The children are the apple of our eye at FLA.

And the challenge that everyone looks forward to:  the straw jump!
I didn't get any pictures of the adults jumping.
That's when we are all praying that no one breaks a leg!

The obstacle course provided lots of fun challenges.

Corn hole competitions going strong!

Ring on a string was a fun, new addition ... how many times til you land the ring on the hook!

The ladies always show their strength with the skillet toss, but I didn't get any pictures of that.
Phooey.

Hope you've enjoyed another year's reformation celebration.
We thank God for a great day.
The weather was wonderful, everyone stayed safe & had fun.

A BIG thank you to every single person who worked to make this come together!
There were countless hours of preparing & planning, but it all paid off.
To hear the laughter, seeing all the smiling faces, & to hear the children begging to stay just a little longer, makes it all worthwhile.
We are already planning & looking forward to next year!

Dollar Tree (Haul) July 2016 || OREOS

Don't you love to stop in at Dollar Tree & find unexpected goodies?!
Yeaaa! Gotta love when that happens!

As I say in the video below, I was pretty flabbergasted to see the hundreds thousands of vloggers
who seem to exclusively film Dollar Tree hauls.
See there, I've even picked me up some correct term, like 'haul' ;)
Apparently saying 'shopping trip' or 'grocery run' or 'stopped in at the store' just isn't sufficient.
Who knew?!

I stumbled across the Dollar Tree vloggers by accident the other day when I was looking up
some freezer meals ideas.
Well, those videos seemed to link up to tons of Costco shopping 'hauls' & before you know it,
there were all sorts of 'haul' videos popping up.
And that, my dear friends, is how I became enlightened about all this Dollar Tree insider information.
Ha ... the whole thing kinda makes me giggle.

I've been shopping the Dollar Tree forever & I do get pretty excited about the deals & fun finds
I come across ... not just there, but anywhere really.
Any deal I find, I am always happy about!
The more money I can save on the daily needs & necessity items (like food & fuel),
the more money I have for the fun stuff in life ... like travel (we just went to Italy, ya know!).
And honestly, whether you have plenty of funds or just a little, God expects us
to be good stewards with our money.
If we spend everything we have, how can we help those in need or financially support
our local church or missions work?
I've always been inspired to share tips & tricks with my friends on ways to stretch their dollars.
I even hosted a couponing/savings seminar a few years back.
Anyone remember that?

Now, this isn't the first time I have filmed little videos like this one, but it's been a good long time.
In fact, if you've been to Call Her Blessed lately, you'll see that ALL the blog posts
are pretty few & far between.
That's life, folks.
Seasons of life.
I've just not been able to get on here & share much at all.
(And I have SO much to catch you up on ... I really, really do!)

I'm thinking that I want to show you a few of the good deals I've gotten lately!
Several of the ladies at church were chatting about deals the past Sunday, so this is a quick way
to share with them all my Dollar Tree shenanigans.

Hope you enjoy & are inspired to see what deals you can find!

And one last thing, here are the shopping grab bags I referenced.
I saw these on the shelf at Rural King on Tuesday for $14.99 ...
the very same box that the Dollar Tree has for $1, of course.

Side note:  The Wet & Wild Fergie concealer ... ummm ... I didn't love it.
I'm going to give it one more try, but I'm thinking it's not a keeper.
The lipstick, however, is cute.
Good color & good staying power!

Talk to you later, my friends!

New Patio Cushions!

Hello there, friends!
First off, today is my dad's 75th birthday ... so HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAD!!

I wanted to show you our new super fun patio cushions!
Ours needed replacing, oh really a couple years back, but they had to be replaced this year.
Unfortunately, when I opened the deck box to get them out a month or so ago,
(we store them in a deck box on our patio to keep them dry & from fading in the sun)
there was a big ol' colony of ants that had taken up residence on every single cushion.
I mean, a whole lotta ants!
Never seen anything quite like it & hope to never again!
I sprayed the ants with Raid, bagged up the cushions, & set them out for trash.

And the search for new cushions was on!

We went to our favorite big home store first, Old Time Pottery.
We immediately liked these red quatrefoil patterned ones, but there were only 4.
So we decided to head over to At Home & Walmart.
(I pulled up Walmart's website while we were in Old Time Pottery & saw that their prices were better too.)

There were tons to choose from at At Home, but more pricey & there were only 3 or 4 in each pattern.
Walmart was next up (all these stores are just right around the corner from each other).
There we found these red stripe cushions & yet again, only a few.
It was then & there that James had a bright idea!
Buy the 4 quatrefoil patterned ones & buy 2 of the stripey ones for the chairs on each end of the table!
Genius!

I hadn't planned on sharing these pictures on the blog (I took them to message to our kids),
thus the tablecloth that needs straightened, but I'm so excited about our fun & festive looking
new cushions that I figured why not!
I'm excited to put some table decor together for this.
Right now I'm thinking a vintage Americana look ... just in time for the 4th of July.
I'm still trying to not buy much in the way of home furnishings (trying to live simpler, ya know ... less stuff),
so I'll see what I can round up around here.

The first day of summer rolled around yesterday, so celebrate summer & make the most of it, friends!
It'll be cold & we'll be sharing pictures of our Christmas trees before you know it!
